Catrese and I went out last night to drive around Huntington in attempts to find possible locations for a photographer friend of my Donna (her photography site link is under the website links on the bottom of my page). She has two shoots coming up in October that are in Huntington which is about an hour drive from where she lives. When she drove up here to look around, she found almost nothing. So she asked me if I could help her out with finding some cool locations. Unfortunately last night, it got too dark before we really found anything with any significant amount of a coolness factor. I’ll have to look around this coming week. If anyone knows any good spots in Huntington, let me know!
Here are a couple shots I got of Catrese while we were on our little location search:
After we got done, we went back to her dorm and decided to watch a movie called Before Sunrise. If you’ve never seen it, make sure you find some time to. It’s such a real, thought provoking, beautiful movie. You can find it on youtube in 10 separate parts. It has a sequel called Before Sunset but I haven’t seen it yet.
Today I woke up at 4pm. It was quite a wonderful thing and was much needed. So now it is 9pm and I’m still sittin here in my pj’s, haven’t eaten because of my lack of money and food in the fridge, was supposed to make an appointment and donate plasma today, haven’t done any of my homework I planned on doing, and my plan to be in St. Albans about 2 hours ago didn’t exactly go thru. Hahaha.
Aren’t I just the non-productive one?
First order of business- I lack the ability to draw hands. Anything else I can pretty much manage and find ways to doing, but not hands. Please look at the sketch below and let me know if this hand looks deformed or demented in any way. I don’t want to paint it onto my painting until it’s decent. (By the way, I worked on trying to draw this hand, not two hands… just one, for about two hours total. That’s a little bit pathetic, hahaha) Anyways, have a look and please tell me what you think. Let me know if it resembles any hand you’ve ever seen…
I’ll leave you with a couple quotes from “The Art of Imperfection” by Veronique Vienne-
“Probably the most effective beauty regimen is to get up in the morning and say ‘Wow.’ “
“Beauty is not a physical thing anymore. It is no longer the sum of visible, positive attributes-it can only be characterized by an absence of negative judgment.”
“It’s a good thing we don’t know how attractive we are. We would run the risk of becoming arrogant and losing the most endearing of all qualities-lack of self-importance.”
“Artists are urged to make mistakes (in Islamic art) on purpose, to remind observers that God alone is perfection.”
“Oue innate idiosyncrasies are actually more endearing to others than our most glorious personal achievements.”
“We are never fully aware of our real charms-the way we sip our tea, the way we sing off-key, the way we dance till three.”
And my favorite and the longest quote I have for you tonight:
“Short of hiring a film crew to make a home movie, you and I will never meet our visible selves, the cloned impersonators who act on our behalf. In the meantime, let’s not pretend that we are secure in our self-image. While we are at it, let’s ignore the latest theories on self-acceptance and self-esteem that want us to celebrate the way we look. None of us really knows what we look like, so why get all worked up about it? We might as well accept our fate: We are stuck forever in a zone of invisibility. But come to think of it, it is the safest place to be. By staying right there, away from our own scrutiny, we will never feel less attractive than we are in reality.”
(Ok, so that was more than a couple
)
Good night, ladies and gents!
Mmmmmhhhmmmm.
A peak…
September 18, 2008
…at my half done painting I started on tonight.
I’m indecisive as to what I want to paint on the other side of the piano keys. I’ve considered hands playing the piano, or even a night scene. Any ideas??? I’m stuck and don’t know where I want this painting to go next. Hmmm…
Anyways, here you go-
(And no, that glass bottle is not a beer bottle. It’s cream sodaaa! Yeah yeah!)
(Ok, does anybody else see the creepy resemblance of a face in the blue paint? Or a half moon with a face…?)

My growing collection of cereal
September 17, 2008
So, I realized this morning, as I began searching for something that would make my tummy ready for the day, that I have a problem.
A cereal problem.
What kind of person, living all by their lonesome, needs 6 different boxes of cereal in their food pantry?
And apparently, I enjoy cereals of the berry variety…
[Make sure you take note of the stereotypical ramen noodles on the left side of the photo. Ohhhh, what a college student I am...]
