overlooking eyes

October 4, 2008

the sorrowful, poor in spirit
the hurting, dying in their hearts
right infront of you
they’re falling apart
and you sit
you sit and preach
tell others how to live
who they need to reach
and you look
you look the other way
when the broken cry out for help
you don’t even hear what they’re trying to say
and you say
oh you say you want to change the world
but what about the people standing right in front of you
every father, mother, boy and girl?
and you pray
you pray for all things distant
overlooking those in your everyday life
acting as if they’re nonexistent

words arn’t needed,
it’s your actions that speak
when you act on every passion
you tend to overlook the mystique
of the one right infront of you
so desperately in search
tired of seeking out hope on a pew
waiting for you to rise up and be the church

can your change not be small?
can you not just love what’s near?
the hearts surrouding yours
may not be as they appear
acting on big dreams
focusing on a big start
i wonder what would happen
if we all just did our part?
